I often wonder when RP became nothing more than a huge race to see who could get into a relationship first.

This is what tore my last RP group apart.

What happened to just having fun through interaction with other characters regardless of a fictional relationship status?

While I can certainly not deny interest in occasionally having certain characters set-up, I think the thing to keep in mind is why you want them to be in a romantic relationship. Too often people just want characters to have romantic liaisons for the sake of it, without thinking of character development. Depending on the age, sexuality, and place in life of your character, romantic relationships whether they last or not can provide endless amounts of growth and development.

This has got to be one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to groups.  Now, I’m not saying rp relationships are a bad thing.  I enjoy those myself, but that is NOT the only thing roleplaying is about.

In other words - your roleplaying group is not a personal dating service for your characters.

:C One of the many reasons why I quit. It’s almost as if your character wasn’t in a relationship, wasn’t seeking one, or had your character turn down the advances of another one—then there wasn’t any roleplaying in general.

Guys, let’s make sure to not let this happen to us any time in the future, alright?

Of course, relationships are fun and yes, more than many things, they can they help improve our characterization; but they’re not the only event that can! That’s one reason I’d like to make a note of Team Urameshi’s Day of Fun. Even without romantic partners running a muck, the boys have a crazy time out and it forms a sort of bonding that I really enjoy seeing. (Or in general, Yusuke’s RPs! He is a wonderful role model for exploring outside relationships!)

If you want to RP with someone who isn’t your love interest, JUST DO IT. JUMP IN AND ASK - no one wants to be excluded and there’s more to a relationship than a romantic one.

DO YOU HEAR ME RINKY? I’M COMIN’ FOR YA. YA CAN’T AVOID ME.

(And maybe Kokou or Ama too, if they want an RP with me or something. o3o)

Note: This isn’t saying stop the RPs you have going! I like reading Read Mores and the paras everyone has going. They’re really wonderful and some of the descriptions are superb! In short - LET’S ALL RP WITH EVERYONE ALL THE TIME.
